Describes life in Tarnowica Polna. Recalls some Easter and Christmas traditions and meals.

Life during the war: most of the houses in her village were burnt down by the Germans in 1943 as they withdrew. Afterwards the village was “constantly attacked” by Ukrainians.

The journey from Tarnawica Polna to western Poland by train. The welcome from the German inhabitants - “the German hosts were very kind to us”. Differences in cuisine and Christmas traditions. Mentions the sadness felt by the Germans when they had to leave.

Remembers how much more beautiful Bystrzyca was when she first arrived, and how “nowadays this place is very decrepit”. “When collective farms came into being, many people left villages and moved to town. A new housing estate was built…” Notes some of the changes to the mountain environment, particularly the increasing pollution as “there were less cars and factories”.
