This narrator discusses the practice of income-seeking migration. Though only extracts of the interview are available, his reflections are nonetheless interesting. While Ignacio acknowledges the allure of job opportunities in Mexico City, he maintains that life in Yavesía is healthier and more peaceful. He also describes income generation through work in the city as being relatively unsustainable: “Living in Mexico City isn’t good anymore because the wages are very low now because of the problem of the free trade deal . . . Promotion isn’t seen; only casual labour is used because the machines are very good at doing the work . . .”. He expresses some regret about his own efforts to seek work outside the village, commenting that staying would have had more long-term benefits.
