summary

The translation of this interview consists of extracts only.

Israel explains Yavesía’s involvement with nature conservation, emphasising the importance of appreciating the value of the environment in which one lives. “We are ensuring that everything goes to order and I hope that this matter finishes and we can say, with every right, that the forest, flora, fauna and water sources should be respected...”. He contends that local environmental problems do not always require outside technological help. Israel also describes dramatic ecological changes within his lifetime, relating the decline in the diverse animal life of the area to a decrease in vegetation. He has no doubt about the role people have played: “the plagues aren’t of four feet but two.”
